The Great Seal is located on the first floor lobby of Charity Hospital in New Orleans. It was a tradition for new nursing students to be instructed early on by their older peers that they were never to step on this seal out of respect for the institution of Charity Hospital. This admonishment was backed up by the fear that it would be bad luck and that the ones’ who ignored this tradition would not graduate.
