The TU Ob ward did not give a lot of pain meds in the 1960’s , presumably due to costs. Alabama was playing Ole Miss On New Year’s. Day 1964 and there happened to be an Ob intern on the unit that night who was an Alabama graduate . He told all laboring mothers that if they hollered, ” Roll Tide” they would get pain meds. Once the other mothers saw the first mother get IM meds they hollered”Roll Tide” all night.
