LSU surgery residents had the great opportunity to rotate at the University Hospital in Lafayette. We definitely got a better taste of outpatient more elective surgery schedule there. They had an overhead paging system for calling alerts like “code blue” or calling patients to different departments or to return to their room.
one of my junior residents, was fond of asking them to page different patients back to their room or xray or lab. He particularly liked to ask them to page Mr. Seymore Butts back to his room or Mr. Billy Rubin to radiology. Always knew when the day was boring when that happened. The operators always sent out the page overhead and went about business as usual.
