Compassionate Physicians

While completing my rotation on the pediatric ward I was assigned to a little girl who had undergone surgery on her lower limbs to correct a deformity. Within a week after surgery she developed a fever and some swelling in her feet. Her doctor ordered that the student nurses remove her casts by soaking her casts in a tub of water. Needless to say it was very time consuming for us but her physician thought it would be less traumatic for her that using a “cast cutter.”
