Bird In OR

On a hot July or August afternoon, I was doing the case on the 12th floor on the Delgado side.  I think it was a vascular case.  We were doing a lot of saphenous vein in situ vascular bypass procedures at that time.  The air conditioning had quit working and it seemed like 100° in the operating room.  The nurse was able to open a window to let some fresh air in.  While in the middle of the operation, a bird flew in the OR.  While the circulating nurse chased the bird around the room, we continued with the surgery.  Luckily, he was mainly flying around the periphery of the room and therefore didn’t poop on the sterile field.  I can’t remember if he finally flew out or we just gave up.
